Keith

Keith was smoking in a transporter cafe somewhere. He was doing it by the window. The light was falling on his face and he was having a great time. He had wanted to be Roy Rodgers when he was little, but this was much better.  I was looking at him admiringly. I was drinking a hot drink, but not too hot mind in case it gives us esophageal cancer. You had to be careful about things like that. Pour a little cold in it if you must, but just don’t die before the ones you love so that you can look after them for as long as possible.  Keith Richards was smoking a cigarette in a picture in a transporter cafe. He was tired after the night before. Nearly having his clothes ripped to shreds by the screaming girls of the previous place. He was eating bacon and eggs with tomato sauce. The man who had served him hadn’t recognized him. He didn’t really get recognized that often. There was a cup and saucer by the plate and an ash tray. The group he belonged to had been enjoying some succes...

The gamekeeper drawing on his fag at the edge of the wood

Image
If you’re out in the fields, ambling as you do, you might come across this chap, David, the gamekeeper, a fag in his mouth and a gun of some description in his paws for shooting at poachers.  I don’t know no poachers, but they do exist. I have a book about them and I seen a program as well. But the gamekeeper knows where they’re at like. He waits at a certain fence, or at this opening to the woods or that and he keeps a look out, he listens, and he stands there for hours if he must do. There’s some lads driving down from Boro. They’re after the badgers or something. I don’t know. Maybe the rabbits. But the gamekeepers having none of it. He just stands there, drawing on his fag.  Wouldn’t the poachers smell it How’m I supposed to know, but he does it, and if it’s a moonlit night, still and quiet, because it must be best for playing poachers and game keeping I expect, then he’s having the time of his life, drawing on his fag and not watching the news or flicking his phone.

Self portrait before it was raining, but I wasn’t worried so much as curious if the roof repair I’d applied would work or not

Image
When I was a kid my mum went to the dentist and her cheek blew up with the anaesthetic. It didn’t look like this because this is a picture of me that I took in the kitchen at work that I then printed and painted in the garden before the storm that didn’t leak in the roof because the night before I went up on it and applied some more roof repair to it which is a paint -  but it was curious to look at.  I didn’t clock the gargantuan cheek that I’ve given myself, and it was no bother writing the word gargantuan as auto correct stepped in just as I was about to mispell it. (Apparently I have mispelt mispell - and mispelt.) Anyway, there wasn’t anything technological to stop the cheek from happening - with my mum and with me neither when I was painting. But that is not to worry. Now this is a different picture I did of myself. (Correctly spelt.) This one has sone shadow on it and I’ve had a few goes at it. This will be as far as I’ve got with it as of today.  After doing thi...

A horse in a field near us. There’s two others but I didn’t paint them.

Image
Painted this horse. There are three of them in this field. We’ve gone there recently and attempted to get on speaking terms. But they’re not always near the fence - sometimes they’re miles off in the field, and no amount of whistling (which I can’t do), or sort of clicking noises (which I can do) can get their attention. There’s also a single lone sheep in the field. This one is a bit more amenable. I was having a chat with it the other night as the sun was making nice colours in the sky. It said that single and lone are basically the same word, so they weren’t necessarily necessary were they? It was at this point that I considered withholding further chats (this sheep always seems pretty lonely so the chats are mainly out of a sense of charity), but I decided to greet the matter head on: Look, I said, I’m done with all that agonising over this word or that. That’s why I like painting so quick. Let’s get into it and then out of it, before we start to thinking about it. The same a...

The field I like at the bottom of the lane with the tree in it

Image
I attend this field at the bottom of the lane frequently. There was a small shore horse in it recently tied to a rope which was tied to the ground somehow. These blokes come in a knackered looking Peugeot, opened the gate I didn’t paint cos I stood in front of it to take the picture I then printed and painted in the garage (roof leaking at present), and produced some lunch for it. Do not do no waving dancing near the pony though. It does not accept this and backs away to walk sideways. It was like a boogie, but I don’t think the little shire horse was happy doing it.  I also did this one of, but I’ve done a bit more on it to practise sone detail and it’s looking a bit detailed and then a bit loose, which doesn’t seem to sit so well.  Oh well.

Two Fellas on a Watercpurse

Image
Two fellas on a water course of some description. Perhaps the yellow ones shirt should be yellower. What do you reckon to that bit of wall on the left, Chris. I’ve not done much over it. It’s just the background. Chris: I don’t know, mate. I’m not really paying attention. Got anymore? I did this one of the trees in the woods, mate. But I’m gonna do a bit more on it. Chris: whatever you fancy, mate. I’m off to the shop. Do you want owt? Nah; I’m off myself later. Thanks for asking though.

Trees in New Earswick near my Grannie’s house, she was called Beryl

Image
Here is a painting of sone trees near my grandmothers bungalow.  Here is another painting of them. I was after capturing the light beneath the main big one.  I think I got the leaves alright in this one. But I probably like the first one best
